Weekend Away - The Lake District - 23rd to 25th September

Saturday morning dawned with dry and fine weather and following an extensive breakfast the group set off on their travels, most deciding to follow the suggested 52 mile route which had been provided.  The route included the Kirkstone Pass (otherwise known as ‘The Struggle’), which, prewar, was a famous test hill and which still proved to be a challenge to our vehicles.

The run from Kirkstone to Ullswater was spectacular.  Following Ullswater the route round the far side of Helvellyn was also very scenic, and took in Thirlmere, the reservoir which supplies the Manchester area with its water, then via Grasmere and Ambleside, where several of the group made stops and then on back to Bowness.

The Saturday evening meal was taken at a very leisurely pace, again preceded by a canape reception. At the conclusion Phil and Katie made a presentation to Andrew and Cath on the group’s behalf for their work in putting the event together.

Another great weekend and MHVC hopes to welcome as many people as possible at next year’s event in Ripley, North Yorkshire
