Weekend Away 25th - 27th September 2015

The Hotel has been substantially upgraded since the last visit. After checking in the group then enjoyed recreational activity in a variety of ways. Some headed straight to the Bar while others took advantage of the leisure complex. There was also plenty of opportunity for a stroll into the village. Friday’s evening meal was of excellent quality and quantity and enjoyed by all with impromptu entertainment being provided by Geoff Hulme.

Saturday dawned again with the promise of good weather conditions. The run was entirely optional but most people decided to make the effort and following a substantial breakfast set off on the 45 mile route. The first part was via the village of Dolwyddelan, overlooked by the picturesque castle keep and then on over the spectacular Crimea Pass to the Llechwedd slate caverns at Blaenau Ffestiniog – once home to the world’s largest slate mining community – evidence of which remains everywhere.

The next stop was much more tranquil – the magnificent gardens of Plas Bronandw. By this time it was around lunchtime for most and so the café was in great demand – the outside seating providing a glorious venue.

The run back to Betws, via Bedgellert (most of the group stopped for a while at this idyllic village) followed the Nant Gwynant Pass along the south east side of Snowdon  and through further breathtaking scenery – surely this region must count as being amongst the best anywhere for old car motoring. Arriving back at the Hotel satisfied after an enjoyable run some took the opportunity of visiting the Swallow Falls, Betws-y-Coed’s number one attraction. The bar and swimming pool were once again in demand.
